Reconnecting to Nature
Friday, September 19th, 2008
I am just coming back from a gorgeous jog at my favorite county park with beautiful tall trees and a five-mile path around a serene lake. I try to do this jog once a month and coordinate it with some other commitments.
What I like about this activity is that it is not so often that I feel delinquent in my many responsibilities. I am able to relish in the monthly opportunity of being in nature and away from my daily routine. It rejuvenates and centers me even more that I allow myself the space and time to do this guilt-free.
When I started doing this I was amazed at how many people I would see at random times of the day doing the same thing. Yet, I think there should be more of us doing this… reconnecting with nature.
In order to center ourselves and synchronize the many roles we play as parent, spouse, sibling, care-giver, and the list goes on, it is important and life-giving to find a place in nature that allows our senses to be heightened and our minds to clear.
I invite you to try a brief or long, leisure or energetic walk, jog or bike ride. Discover your favorite park or nature excursion for this month wherever you live or maybe try a new location. Carve out time before or after work or on your lunch hours. Perhaps you start with this as a one-time thing and see where it takes you…
